Use the Layers panel to find and manage every Visual and layer in the Workspace. Select Layers in the left panel when the Content Shelf is open.

Select and find layers

  • Click a Visual or layer row to select it on the canvas.

  • Hold Cmd/Ctrl to add or remove items from the selection.

  • Hold Shift to select a contiguous range.

  • Use Search layers or press Cmd/Ctrl+F to match layer names and types.

  • Hover a row to preview its target on the canvas.

Rename and organize

  • Double-click a Visual or layer name, or select it and press Enter, to rename it.

  • Press Enter to commit the name or Esc to cancel.

  • Drag a row to reorder it or move it into a compatible group.

  • Right-click a row for duplicate, copy/paste, bring forward/back, flip, align, distribute, group, ungroup, and delete actions.

Reordering is unavailable while layer search is filtering the list.

Hide and lock

  • Use the eye control to show or hide a layer.

  • Use the lock control to fully lock or unlock a layer.

  • Use Lock position when the layer should remain selectable and styleable but must not move or resize.

Work with multiple items

Select compatible layers to rename or replace text in bulk. Select multiple Visuals to duplicate them, paste layers into them, or delete them after confirmation. Locked items are skipped by bulk edits that cannot safely change them.

Use the Options menu

The panel’s Options menu can filter Visuals, expand or collapse the list, arrange visible Visuals, review cleanup candidates, and open document-wide typography controls. Available actions depend on the current Workspace and mode.

Content Shelf

Switch to Content Shelf to browse and place available image assets. Return to Layers to manage the resulting image layer.
